Yo,

So, below are the six wines that we’ll be pouring during our Natural Wine Week blowout partay on Friday, August 27th, from 7:00pm-11:00pm. Each will be paired to a set of music in half-hour segments, and while that wine is being featured, it will be 50% off by the glass!

Check it:

- 2008 Thierry Puzelat La Tesniere Touraine
- 2009 Christian Venier Gris Gourlaouen Rose
- 2006 Julien Courtois Originel
- 2009 Mouressipe Cacous
- 2007 Occhipinti Nero d’Avola Sicilia Siccagno
- 2006 Paolo Bea San Valentino Umbria Rosso

Unfortunately, we’ll be keeping the music pairings to ourselves. But you’ll get to hear them soon enough.

Love,

Heart

…for new (improved) mason jars! We are now using mason jars made by Bormioli Rocco, an Italian glass maker that dates back to 1825. The jars (see below) are based off the figure of the Roman Amphora, the original wine vessel. Their Amphora-like shape allows both the wine (and beer/cider/sake) to breath and you to easily stick your muzzle in there for a sniff. And they’re still cool as hell, equally as adept at raucous, alcohol-fueled gatherings as at romantic (communal) trysts or family dinners.

Come drink.

August 27th from 7:00pm until 11:00pm.

As part of San Francisco Natural Wine Week, the week that celebrates America’s best natural wine locale.

Heart presents -

MAKING NATURAL WINE FUN AGAIN: A PARTY.

A night of revelry loosely organized around natural wine.

For one night, forget cultured yeasts, SO2 counts, horses, volatile acidity and navel-gazing wing nuts.

We at Heart are throwing a party celebrating the fact that natural wines taste better and make us feel better about devoting our lives to a beverage.

Kid Gorgeous will throw down mad beats all night in 30-minute segments, each paired to a different natural wine that we’ll be highlighting. When the music is playing, the wine it’s paired to will be flowing like water, at industrial plonk-like prices. When the music stops, get a new glass.

We’ll also have a bunch of natural food (naturally) floating around to pair up with the wine of the moment. Oh, and puppets. That’s right, puppets.

The music & wine pairings will remain top secret for now. But expect them to be life-changing.

See you there.

Love,

Heart

hapa ramen @ heart

tuesday, june 29, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Love ramen? So do we. Sadly, there’s no good ramen in San Francisco. Well, until now. For one night only, San Francisco’s Hapa Ramen will be hustling its bowls of gold from our 24th & Valencia street pop-up Ramen house.

We’re still busy crafting the perfect menu, but think miso, pork and sea vegetables with a smattering of izakaya-style Japanese food (which will also be on the menu, provided by ours truly, Kitchenette).

Oh, and we’re bringing in sake. Lots of sake. Really good sake. And, of course, we’ll have plenty of legit wine and beer, too.

The ramenparty will be first-come, first-serve, so it may help to get here on the early side. But if shit gets crazy (those of you who attended our Street Food event know what we’re talking about), we’ll have plenty of alcohol to keep you smiling.

See you then.

Drinking old wine is kind of like playing roulette. Quite often, you’re going to be utterly disappointed (although not all that surprised). Sometimes, you’ll encounter fleeting enjoyment. And once in a rare while, you’ll find absolute true happiness (at least if you play roulette like I do, where I bet everything on red or black). And it’s always worth it.

With that said, we at Heart have an oft-rotating little Reserve List for the risk-takers and the hedonists out there. Here is our latest version.

P.S. – All these wines have been cellared perfectly, so it’s basically like playing roulette without ’0′ or ’00′.

Irregular beats.

Opening Reception: Wednesday, May 12, 2010 7-10pm

Heart Wine Bar and Art Gallery is proud to introduce Transplants, an exhibition of the perspectives of three artists, Ben Venom, John Casey Clary, and Kevin Earl Taylor, and their illustrious journey to the Bay Area. The show will explore a collaborative impression of the natural world and its relation to the uninhibited state of the human mind; a purely organic experience. We at Heart look forward to sharing this event with you on May 12, 2010, from 7pm to 10pm.

Ben Venom is a self-proclaimed “visual commentator on the unique culture of the Southern United States.” Perhaps this makes him an expert on the lifestyle engulfed by Southern comforts. Nevertheless, at this current point in time, Venom is a Transplant from the down-home dirty south to the wind-whipping dirty streets of San Francisco. In the Transplants show, Venom will employ a multi-faceted collaboration of elements on screen-print, with cyanotype, tea, and resin, taking a nod to nostalgia; the collection brings to mind 1978’s Michael Cimino film, “Deer Hunter” with Robert De Niro. Ben Venom’s works are deeply rooted in Southern culture, as “politics, racing, and heavy metal” all play an integral role in his ever-expanding opus of creativity.

Jon Casey Clary explores the visual limits of the monotonous. It is the place we call home, the surrounding of our everyday in which Clary evokes such mysticism in his works. Clary takes advantage of the tools he has been given, whether it be a brush, a camera, or a computer, and harnesses their every worth; redirecting the gift of his influences, he can expound a world all his own. In his compositions, Jon Casey Clary draws forth the curious milieu of a celestial world, and reminds the viewer of all that is so unattainable in reality.

Kevin Earl Taylor extracts from the ephemeral, paying homage to the “chaotic and incomprehensible” of the “human paradigm” as it relates to the natural state of being. He has exhibited paintings around the world and is published both nationally and internationally. For Transplants, three artists will come together from different ends of the spectrum, employing an intimate and somewhat vulnerable migration to the Bay Area as means of self-expression. Kevin Earl Taylor’s works examine life-like creatures in a morbid, dream-like state, utilizing colors that draw from a personal intimacy with the everyday natural world in order to animate “a parody…offering visual depiction of this all at one grotesque, lovely, and hilarious production.”
