Our crazy cheap bottle list.
Our crazy cheap bottle list.
June 16th, 2010 by Jeff Segal
Although our eats and beers and glasses of wine are pretty damn reasonably-priced (if we do say so ourselves), without a doubt, the best value at Heart is our bottle list. Because we charge a flat $9 “corkage fee” above our retail prices for dine-in bottles of wine, there are some screaming deals to be had. Just check out our current list (below) and see what we’re talking about…

Heart’s Reserve List.
May 14th, 2010 by Jeff Segal
Drinking old wine is kind of like playing roulette. Quite often, you’re going to be utterly disappointed (although not all that surprised). Sometimes, you’ll encounter fleeting enjoyment. And once in a rare while, you’ll find absolute true happiness (at least if you play roulette like I do, where I bet everything on red or black). And it’s always worth it.
With that said, we at Heart have an oft-rotating little Reserve List for the risk-takers and the hedonists out there. Here is our latest version.
P.S. – All these wines have been cellared perfectly, so it’s basically like playing roulette without ’0′ or ’00′.
Irregular beats.

Heart Private Dinner #1 – Get Your Segovia On.
April 3rd, 2010 by Jeff Segal
Tuesday, April 27th. Save the date. That’s when we’re hosting the first incarnation of our monthly private dinner series focusing on cuisines from around the world and the wines that pair well with them. They’ll be four-course extravaganzas, replete with four mind-bending wine pairings that will leave you begging for more. Here’s the deal: $100 (per person) gets you the food, the wine and true happiness.
For our first dinner, we’re focusing on the food of Segovia. We’re not going to show our hand just yet, but for those of you in the know, you know that means one thing for sure – roast suckling pig (check this out). We promise that, and more.
Your Segovian tour guides for this trip will be our very own culinary guerillas, but we’ll also be featuring guest chef collaborations and such in the future.
The dinners will run from 7:00pm-10:00pm and will have 60 seats available. All seats are at our communal tables, so if you’re not down to dine with other cool, beautiful, food-loving folks family-style, please don’t come. To reserve seats, E-Mail info@heartsf.com with your name, your phone number, the size of your party and your most desired dining time. First come, first serve. If you are one of the first 60 peeps to get in touch with us, we’ll call you and confirm your reservation. We’ll require you to give us a credit card, as no-shows will incur a $50 charge.
We’re super excited about this addition to the Heart family, and we hope you are, too. OK, now, let the reserving begin.

Grandma’s Happy Hour.
March 23rd, 2010 by Jeff Segal
Everyone loves happy hour (even grandmothers). So we at Heart have decided to offer our own. From now on, every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 4:00pm-6:00pm, all Sherry is 50% off by the glass. And while we can’t promise any Harveys Bristol Cream in case you do bring your loving matriarch, we have some pretty badass swill from Jerez that will make you want to weep and start Flamenco dancing.
Heart Happy Hour. Every weekday (except Tuesday) from 4:00pm-6:00pm. Sherry 50% off.
Old Rioja + ham = porky love.
March 11th, 2010 by Jeff Segal
Tonight we are offering a special that is, simply, intoxicating. We just got in a few bottles (three to be precise) of 1973 Vina Valoria Rioja. To celebrate, we’re serving it up tonight by the glass.
But not alone. We’re pairing it with organic La Quercia Green Label ham from Iowa, which is basically America’s version of Pata Negra, aka Jamón Ibérico, or cured ham from huge pigs that roam around Southern Spain eating acorns their entire lives.
And it’s just $30 for both. The two are absolutely ridiculous together. Come check it out. To make the experience all the more Iberian, we’ll play some fun Spanish films on the wall.
Echo.
March 9th, 2010 by Jeff Segal
Well, we have a lot to be excited about. There’s the 2001 Domaine de la Tournelle Vin Jaune from the Jura region of France. A caveat – this wine is not for everyone. It is odd, odd stuff. But we fucking love this wine. It spends a minimum of six years in barrel without any topping off, so that yeast can form and thrive and do all sorts of crazy things to the Savagnin juice inside. The end result is a wine that looks like urine (the urine of a painfully hung-over morning), smells like brandy, and tastes like almonds, pine resin, nougat and love. It’s not cheap at $24 a glass, but if you drink one, we promise to drink one right there alongside you.
Then there’s the 2008 Siete 7 Garnacha and Tempranillo Tinto from the Navarra region of Spain. One of the few wines in the world with a cool label that actually tastes good. The Grenache fruit on this is so bright it’s like getting punched in the face. But while the Grenache provides the bling, it’s the Tempranillo that gives the wine its soul. This is the wine you want to drink out of a bota after watching a really bloody bullfight and keep drinking until it’s gone. At $7 a pop, you can afford to.
And we can’t stop drinking the North Coast Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. This beer is amazing. Walk into Heart anytime after closing time (whenever that is), and odds are you’ll see most of the crew putting one down. It tastes like Ritual espresso and chocolate, with the slightest hint of bitterness to keep everything in check. This beer is peacefully smoking a cigar on your porch in Tahoe on a quiet, icy winter night while blasting Norwegian death metal in the background.
Peace.
