Get Yer Txakoli On.

Get Yer Txakoli On.

October 15th, 2010 by Jeff Segal

Thursday, October 21st, from 5:30pm until 9:30pm we are going to have a party.  A kick-ass party.  To be more specific, a Txakoli party.

Txakoli is a white wine from the Basque region of Spain.  It’s pretty damn hip these days (it’s a known fact that hipsters adore Txakoli), but for good reason.  It’s the opposite of most of the crap white wine people are drinking these days – it’s fizzy, low in alcohol, super high in acidity and doesn’t even know what oak is.  And we want to make Txakoli even cooler, so we’re organizing a party around it.

Here’s the deal.  We’re going to pour three awesome Txakolis by the glass all night, as well as offer a tasting flight of them for just $5, and you’ll get your $5 back if you buy a bottle of any of them.  In addition, we’ll also be pouring two crazy (as in insane) Basque ciders by the glass, and they’ll be in the tasting, too.

We’re also going to be doing a 100% Basque menu, so get excited for things like this:

And, the most fun part…in the Basque region, they have a very cool way of pouring wine.  See below.  Anyway, we are going to have a pouring contest, where you will get to splash wine and cider all over our floor.  And the winner will get a prize.  Oh, and speaking of prizes, the first people in the door for the event will get free cider glasses and pouring vessels.  It’s Christmas morning two months early.

See you there.

Love,

Heart

Louis/Dressner + Good F-ing Wine @ Heart

September 30th, 2010 by Jeff Segal

Dear minions,

Next Thursday, October 7th, is an event that we at Heart are very excited about. From 6:30pm until 9:30pm, wine importers/rock stars Joe Dressner and Denyse Louis, of Louis/Dressner Selections (http://louisdressner.com), will be in the house, along with Farm Wine Imports, their California distributor, as we pour through eight of their most interesting wines.

It will cost $5 to taste through all eight wines, which is, to be honest, the best deal ever, and if you buy a bottle of any of the wines either to drink here or to take home, we’ll waive the tasting fee anyway.

These are the beautiful wines that we will be pouring:

- 2008 Coquelet Chiroubles Vieilles Vignes
- 2007 De Moor Bourgogne Chitry
- 2008 Puzelat La Tesniere Touraine
- 2009 Puzelat KO Rose
- 2009 Puzelat Pinot Meunier
- 2009 Donati Malvasia dell’Emilia Frizzante
- 2007 Bera Ronco Malo Barbera d’Asti
- 2006 Maremma Massa Vecchia Rosato

OK, we’ll see you there.  No reservations necessary.  Just show up.  Try to smile.

Love,

Heart

Heartoberfest!

September 22nd, 2010 by Jeff Segal

This Saturday, September 25th, we’re devoting an entire day to:

HEARTOBERFEST.

From 11:00am to 11:00pm, we’ll be serving up mad local sausages, wine and beer. Oh, and pickled fish and sauerkraut and joy. And, with any luck, some funny outfits. Please bring yours, as well.

Look for homemade beer sausages fresh from some local meat rock stars, German brews, and a smorgasbord of German wines. Riesling(s), of course, but also Muller-Thürgau, Portugieser and others. At phantastisch prices.

No reservations necessary, no entry fees, no bullshit. Just bring your appetite, maybe some Pepto Bismol, and your liver.

Liebe,

Heart

Heart, and new glasses…

July 28th, 2010 by Jeff Segal

We just wanted to quickly let y’all know that Heart has finally abandoned its beloved mason jars…

…for new (improved) mason jars!  We are now using mason jars made by Bormioli Rocco, an Italian glass maker that dates back to 1825.  The jars (see below) are based off the figure of the Roman Amphora, the original wine vessel.  Their Amphora-like shape allows both the wine (and beer/cider/sake) to breath and you to easily stick your muzzle in there for a sniff.  And they’re still cool as hell, equally as adept at raucous, alcohol-fueled gatherings as at romantic (communal) trysts or family dinners.

Come drink.

Making Natural Wine Fun Again: A Party

July 26th, 2010 by Jeff Segal

August 27th from 7:00pm until 11:00pm.

As part of San Francisco Natural Wine Week, the week that celebrates America’s best natural wine locale.

Heart presents -

MAKING NATURAL WINE FUN AGAIN: A PARTY.

A night of revelry loosely organized around natural wine.

For one night, forget cultured yeasts, SO2 counts, horses, volatile acidity and navel-gazing wing nuts.

We at Heart are throwing a party celebrating the fact that natural wines taste better and make us feel better about devoting our lives to a beverage.

Kid Gorgeous will throw down mad beats all night in 30-minute segments, each paired to a different natural wine that we’ll be highlighting.  When the music is playing, the wine it’s paired to will be flowing like water, at industrial plonk-like prices.  When the music stops, get a new glass.

We’ll also have a bunch of natural food (naturally) floating around to pair up with the wine of the moment.  Oh, and puppets.  That’s right, puppets.

The music & wine pairings will remain top secret for now.  But expect them to be life-changing.

See you there.

Love,

Heart

RamenFest 2010!

June 24th, 2010 by Jeff Segal

June 29: We turn Japanese with Hapa Ramen

hapa ramen @ heart

tuesday, june 29, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Love ramen?  So do we.  Sadly, there’s no good ramen in San Francisco.  Well, until now.  For one night only, San Francisco’s Hapa Ramen will be hustling its bowls of gold from our 24th & Valencia street pop-up Ramen house.

We’re still busy crafting the perfect menu, but think miso, pork and sea vegetables with a smattering of izakaya-style Japanese food (which will also be on the menu, provided by ours truly, Kitchenette).

Oh, and we’re bringing in sake. Lots of sake.  Really good sake.  And, of course, we’ll have plenty of legit wine and beer, too.

The ramenparty will be first-come, first-serve, so it may help to get here on the early side.  But if shit gets crazy (those of you who attended our Street Food event know what we’re talking about), we’ll have plenty of alcohol to keep you smiling.

See you then.
