California Wine
February 3rd, 2010 by Jeff Segal
We don’t sell much California wine at Heart. But we got one in today that’s a good example of what the state’s winemakers can produce when they’re trying. The wine is a 2005 Meritage called Le Petit Paysan from Coast View Vineyard in Monterey County. It’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot in roughly equal proportions. Like grilled lamb smothered in berries. It reminds me of a wine that a Graves winemaker for a Chateau would make in his garage at night. If any wine deserves to be served in a mason jar, this is it. We drank it for breakfast. $25 a bottle. Starting on the glass list tonight. Come get it.
